A safe place to call home is one of the most basic human rights, but for some, it's nothing more than a distant dream.
Now is your chance to become a hero in your city, by offering a place in your home to somebody in need. Bristol City Council is on a mission to tackle homelessness in all its forms, and it needs you to step up to be a part of something special, to be a beacon of hope and help somebody in need take the first step towards a brighter future.
Opening your home to a stranger is a big step, but you're not alone on your journey to making a change. Bristol City Council is here to support you, like 480 other Bristolian households who have opened their hearts to a refugee in need, every step of the way. From navigating paperwork to ensuring a smooth and hassle free experience.
If you're a private landlord, you might be able to help resettle vulnerable refugee families.
By joining the scheme, you'll receive guaranteed monthly rent payments, paid at local housing allowance rate, as well as incentive payments, tenancy sign-up paperwork including inventory, alongside tenancy support - including a dedicated support worker.
By opening your door - and heart - to a lodger in need, you could earn up to £500 per month, tax-free - providing you join the government's Rent a Room Scheme. In the midst of a cost of living crisis, you could give your bank balance a serious boost whilst doing something meaningful for your community and making a real difference in somebody's darkest hour.
By partnering with Bristol City Council, you're not only reducing risks - as all lodgers are known to the council - but also ensuring a steady stream of income for yourself. Plus, with the expertise of organisations like Refugee Welcome Homes, you can rest assured that you're in good hands.
Bristol City Council is striving to support refugees in gaining their independence in our city; enabling them to support themselves and their families with access to a sustainable tenancy and English learning support, and thus being able to gain employment, in order to empower them to contribute to the community.
If you're a proud member of the community in Bristol with a spare room, you could help make the difference to somebody in need. Whilst there is a pressing need for housing for refugees, this opportunity aims to tackle the travesty of homelessness in all its forms, whether it's providing shelter to young people or offering refuge to those fleeing unimaginable conflict.
Whether you're a seasoned landlord or first-time host, there's a place for you in the movement. If you're ready to provide safety, security and warmth to those in need, whether they're youngsters, refugees or anyone else seeing sanctuary in our city, it's time to show the world what Bristol is made of - compassion, resilience and a whole lot of heart.
Join the movement today and be a part of something truly special. Together, we can make Bristol a place where everyone feels welcomed, safe, and supported. Together, we can make a house a home and help those in need take control of their lives once more.
