A Wetherspoons pub that was described as one of the “best” in Bristol in an online review in 2022 remains on the market nearly two years after it was put up for sale The Jolly Sailor in Hanham announced that it was closing in September 2022 , but has still not found a buyer for the pub.
Wetherspoons announced that a number of pubs would close in 2022 due to the rising costs of food and energy bills, as well as the continued impact of the pandemic. However the pub is still being run today whilst the search for a buyer continues.
The pub is being advertised on Savills and Rightmove and is listed at £400,000, down from £500,000 a year ago . The building is two-storeys and semi-detached which consists of 238 square metres. Rightmove notes that the property is currently under offer.

The property is described as having an external beer terrace at the rear, providing seats for 74 customers, and bar areas on the ground floor and first floor. It is located on Hanham’s High Street.
Eddie Gershon, a spokesperson for the pub, said: “Wetherspoons is in negotiation on the sale of the property. In the meantime the pub continues to trade as normal.”
The pub has a 3.9 star rating on Google and has garnered mixed reviews on Tripadvisor but one customer had given it a glowing five-star rating even calling it the "best spoons in Bristol". They praised the staff at the Jolly Sailor for their "friendly, can-do attitude" after a visit back in December 2022, after the pub was announced to be closing.
A more recent reviewer on Google gave the pub five stars and said: “Lovely pub in the heart of a lovely community. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The staff are always smiling and very friendly with the children.
“Service is quick and always nice. Again the staff couldn't do enough, they are amazing. Drink service is a good price and easy and quick to buy and serve. This is a brilliant pub in the heart of the community, please keep it open!”
