As part of a series focusing on the much loved chefs of Bristol, BristolLive spoke with Dan Whitlock, chef at Racks Bar & Kitchen to find out where he likes to go for food and drink in the city.
Dan has worked at Racks for two and a half years and has been a chef in the industry for some two decades. Racks is an independently-run bar and kitchen buried deep in the cellars of Bristol's old wine merchants, which boasts a menu filled with local produce and drinks suppliers.
It prides itself on its ability to host a party or event, with space for up to 200 people and free venue hire. What's more, this much loved establishment is dog friendly, so you're four-legged friend can enjoy a visit, too.
When Dan isn't wowing diners with his culinary creations he, like many of the other chefs already featured in this series, loves to get out and about and visit what other venues in the Bristol food scene have to offer. He shares some of his favourites with BristolLive below...

Hi Dan, tell us what is your absolute 'go-to' place for food in Bristol?
"Little Hollows is my favourite, locally. They use quality seasonal produce and local ingredients so it’s always fresh."
Where is your ultimate Sunday lunch destination?
"I always go to Pasture. It’s unmatched in terms of quality of meat - and the service is impeccable."
Where would you say offers best value for money?
"The Canteen. They only do vegetarian and vegan food, and I’m a bit of a meat-lover, but I’m constantly impressed by their dishes. Plus, it’s in the centre of Stokes Croft, so always has a good vibe."
Where is your go-to place for a celebratory meal?
"I’m friends with the sous chef at Bulrush and can say it may be the best in Bristol. It has a great atmosphere and the service is immense- the wine sommelier is a special touch too. Five out of five all round."
How about your favourite takeaway destination?
"I have a soft spot for a Chinese takeaway (especially while hungover on a Sunday) and find Aromas hits the spot every single time. Marco’s Fish and Chips in Clifton is also great - all the fish is fresh and their mushy peas are amazing."
Is there a bakery you can't get enough of?
"I’m not much of a bakery lover but my wife Ellie loves the new Greek bakery Bake-a-Licious, in Clifton Village. Their pistachio croissant is particularly good."
What would you say is your favourite coffee shop?
"Foliage in Clifton Village do a banging flat whites."
Where would you recommend as the best place to go for a 'quick bite'?
"Has to be Sandwich Sandwich. I live by their Pastrami sandwich and their Scotch Eggs. You also can’t say no to a £7 lunch at Racks."
Finally, give us a list of places you can't wait to try next...
"Pazzo looks great, so will be heading there soon. I’ve also never had a Bank Tavern roast which is definitely top of my Bristol bucket list."
