Good afternoon, Gasheads, and welcome to live coverage as Bristol Rovers travel to Vale Park to take on Port Vale in League One.

Fresh off the back of two encouraging performances against promotion-chasing sides in Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County, the Gas will fancy their chances as they face an out-of-form Vale side this afternoon.

A run of seven games without a win saw Gas legend Darrell Clarke sacked on Monday, with Andy Crosby now in interim charge of the Valiants. They put up a good fight in defeat at second-placed Ipswich Town the following day, but sitting in 18th place, the relegation zone looms six points over their shoulder with the run-in nearing its climax.

As a result, 15th-place Rovers can expect to face a team with no shortage of motivation and it has the makings of a tricky test in the Potteries.

Kick-off at Vale Park is at 3pm. Stay tuned throughout the afternoon for live updates and reaction.

Barton's reaction

Joey Barton admits Bristol Rovers' performance at Port Vale on Saturday was "miles short" of what he expected as they fell to a 2-0 defeat.

The Gas were below par for the vast majority of the contest at Vale Park, where Rovers shipped two soft first-half goals to the Valiants, although 19-year-old goalkeeper Jed Ward could take no blame in just his second career start for the club as Ellis Harrison and Tom Pett put the hosts in command.

Barton rang the changes early in the second half, using all five substitutes at his disposal, and although the intensity levels rose, they could not break down a Vale side that was determined to hold onto their lead as they looked to pull clear of the League One relegation zone.

Rovers are mathematically safe

Their superior goal difference meant it was already a certainty, but Cambridge's defeat to Plymouth today means the Gas are mathematically safe from relegation.

A decent achievement to do it with four games left after a rocky start to the campaign.

One of those days where the whole team was off their game. Forgivable after a long, hard season with the Gas now mathematically safe with four games to spare.

A dangerous ball comes in from Evans after the Gas work it short, but no one can force it home on the way out for a goal kick.

Prodded wide

Collins curls in a dangerous cross from the left, but Marquis cannot steer the ball on target. Would have taken a helluva touch to finish it off.

Yellow cards

Both Sam Finley and Jamie Proctor are booked for a tussle off the ball.

Poor

Collins receives the ball in a promising position 25 yards from goal, but his shot hits the top of the stand behind the goal, which just about sums this up so far.

Just wide

Half time: Vale 2-0 Rovers

Poor showing from the Gas so far. Have not created a chance of note and they've shipped two poor goals.

Loads to do to rescue anything from this one.

  • Share

What are they doing?

Connolly and Gibbons make an almighty mess of an innocuous situation, gifting Massey a clear run at goal. Luckily for Rovers, his touch is poor and he can only lay it back to Proctor and the cross cleared everyone in the area and rolled away to safety.

Applause for the ex-Gas striker from both sets of fans as he limps around the perimeter of the pitch.
