Martin Lewis and the team at MoneySavingExpert (MSE) have revealed how young people can get themselves a free railcard for four years. The offer is on until the end of the month.
In the latest edition of MoneySavingExpert’s Money Tips Email, the experts at MSE gave a rundown of the railcard offer. Until Tuesday, April 30, students and those aged 20 to 25-year-olds can bag a four-year free railcard worth £100 from Santander.
By setting up a Santander Edge Student current account, you will be able to receive the offer. The deal is available for first year students, switchers with at least two years left to study and new level 4 to 7 apprentices.
Now 20 to 25-year-olds can cash in on the railcard perk by either opening the Edge account. This costs £3 per month, but pays one per cent cashback (max £20 per month) on bills and supermarket, fuel and travel spending.
Or, you can open an Everyday account - it's fee-free but there's no cashback. To get the railcard, you need to deposit £500 or more and set up online banking.
The four-year Santander 16-25 Railcard can save a third on rail travel around Great Britain. There are some eligibility requirements you’ll need to remember.
According to Santander, to open a bank account and receive the offer, you’ll need to:
- You’re 18 or over and live in the UK permanently
- You’re about to begin or have started an undergraduate course or a level 4-7 apprenticeship, that is at least two years in length. If you’re about to begin your course, you must have an ‘unconditional’ or ‘confirmed conditional’ offer (i.e. you have your exam results) before you apply
- You pay in at least £500 into your account every four months
- You must use this as your main current account
- You don’t already have an existing Santander current account. If you have a Santander current account, you’ll need to transfer it
- This is a paper-free account
