A man has tragically lost his life following a head-on collision in Somerset. The fatal incident occurred on the A361 in East Cranmore around 6.40pm on Wednesday, April 17, involving a white BMW 1 Series and a green Vauxhall Astra.
The driver of the Astra was pronounced dead at the scene, with Avon and Somerset Police confirming that his family have been informed and are receiving support from a specially trained officer. The male driver of the BMW was transported to hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the crash, with the BMW heading towards Shepton Mallet and the Astra moving in the direction of Frome.

While investigations are still in their early stages, officers have also spoken to the driver of a black Ford Fiesta, which was travelling in the same direction as the BMW. They are considering the possibility that this vehicle may also have been involved in the incident.
The A361 was closed overnight to allow emergency services to conduct their investigations, reopening around 10.20am on Thursday, April 18. Police believe there were several other vehicles in the area at the time, including a green John Deere tractor towing a red silage trailer, reports Somerset Live.
