A victim is fighting for his life in hospital after a serious assault at a pub on the outskirts of Bristol. The man in his 40s was left with a serious head injury after being attacked during the early hours of this morning (Saturday, March 2), police have confirmed.
Police said the man, who has not been named, is in a critical condition after being rushed to Southmead Hospital following the assault at a pub on Renwick Road in the village of Pilning.
BristolLive has been told that paramedics and police rushed to the King's Arms pub in Pilning, which is between Avonmouth and the M4 in South Gloucestershire, following reports of an assault. At 12.15am officers found a man had been attacked in the car park.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At around 12.15am today (Saturday 2 March) emergency services attended a pub on Renwick Road, Pilning, following a report a man had been assaulted in the carpark.
"A man aged in his 40s was subsequently taken to Southmead Hospital with a serious head injury. His condition is currently described as critical. Officers have informed his next of kin and are providing them with support.
"A man in his 20s was arrested a short time after the incident on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody.
"As part of our investigation into what happened officers will be speaking to a number of identified witnesses and reviewing CCTV.
"A cordon was in place at the pub earlier to allow crime scene investigators to examine the area." The cordon has since been lifted.
