Organisers of Glastonbury Festival have confirmed the return of the event in 2023 after a special edition this year. The festival at Worthy Farm attended by some 220,000 people was particularly poignant this year after a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many feared the worst when the festival was forced to cancel its 50th-anniversary celebrations back in 2020 but the site seemed unaffected by the hiatus (and the rail strikes). Ticket holders from 2020 had an agonisingly long wait to step back onto the farm once more.
Fortunately, it won't be so long until the next event. Every five years, the festival has a fallow year to allow the site to recover and to prevent further damage. Under normal circumstances, that could have been the case for next year as the last instance of this was in 2018, but due to two cancellations, the next one is likely to be in 2027.

On Monday (June 27), the organisers shared their well wishes on social media after this year's festival: "Thank you to everyone who helped make Glastonbury 2022 such a special one. We’ll see you next year!" The post was coupled with a picture of a headline from the Glastonbury Free Press pasted to a bin which read: "See you in 359 days!"
Festival organiser Emily Eavis thanked everyone for making it "such a special Glastonbury" and implored festival-goers to take their rubbish home with them this year. The festival has struggled over the years with litter being left behind but it has improved in recent times with the 'Leave No Trace' campaign.
History was made with both the youngest and the oldest headliners on the Pyramid Stage this year with stand-out performances from Billie Eilish and Sir Paul McCartney. Punters poured in to see Motown legend Diana Ross and Kendrick Lamar closed the show on Sunday night exuding artistic excellence in an impeccably choreographed set.
Bristol bands came out in force to support Big Jeff across the weekend who sadly became severely injured in a house fire this month. The likes of Idles and Self Esteem sent their well wishes to the artist.
But who could headline for next year? Organiser Michael Eavis previously revealed that the Glastonbury team already have the 2023 and 2024 headliners all planned out. He told BBC Radio DJ Andy Bennett: "We’ve got all the headliners for the next two years… they’re all in place."
Rumours have already started flying around for the 2023 lineup, which is unlikely to be revealed until later next year. Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce and Taylor Swift - who was meant to headline in 2020 - have already been mentioned.
Those who are interested in snapping up tickets for 2023 will need to register their interest. Registration is open at www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk. Online registration is free of charge and only takes a few minutes.
It is recommended that people register well in advance of attempting to book tickets. If you have registered since 2010, your registration number should still be valid according to the advice on the festival website.
