Hello and welcome to today's live match blog.

It's gameday for the young Robins as they look to extend their impressive start to the season against Severnside rivals Cardiff at the High Performance Centre.

City have won four of their opening five matches this season and currently sit second in the league behind Millwall who have maintained a perfect record. The Robins head into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory after Joe Low headed in a last-minute winner against Sheffield Wednesday last week.

Cardiff are likely to give them a good test this afternoon with the Bluebirds winning three of their four matches this season.

City's team selection is likely to be intriguing. Last week, it was a strong starting XI that included Kane Wilson, Timm Klose, Cam Pring, Sam Bell and Max O'Leary with the plan to maintain their match fitness.

With a trip to Norwich tomorrow, those senior players are unlikely to feature but there could be appearances for Sol Bamba and potentially Stefan Bajic. Stay tuned with the match action by scrolling down below throughout the afternoon.

Full-time

The referee calls time on this one and City are resounding 5-0 winners to extend their unbeaten record to six matches.

A brilliant, resounding performance and further proof City are going to be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Some argy-bargy

Wouldn't be a proper derby without a bit of handbags... Owers and Caleb Hughes are at it.

Hughes accuses Owers of stamping on him after a tussle down this left side before the Cardiff man sticks out a leg with a little petulant kick.

The ref gives them both a word and decides no further action is needed.

Chance

Almost a worldie from Palmer-Houlden as he pinches the ball from Benjamin. He's on the edge of the box on the left and looks to curl one into the top corner but it narrowly drifts past the post.

He's unlucky not to be on the scoresheet this afternoon.

Bajic

So far so good from the keeper who is so vocal and commanding when coming out to claim a ball.

Palmer-Houlden almost makes it six with a header that drifts wide of the left post.

Disallowed goal

Cardiff have the ball in the net but the flag goes up - that looked close!

James Crole was played through on goal and fired it beyond Bajic but the clean sheet remains in tact. Kadji has come off for Joe Porton in the centre of midfield.

Getting fiesty

Leeson was on a receiving end of a cruncher in which Kristiansen received a yellow - could have been a red card from here.

Sam Bell has come off and replaced by Marley Rose.

How it happened

Taylor-Clarke just plays a neat little pass into Kadji's feet midway in Cardiff's half. The midfielder has space to run into and whips it into the top corner from 25-yards to make it five.

A moment of class from Kadji

What a hit!

The work rate

They might be 4-0 ahead but City are showing no signs of taking their foot off the gas. They're giving Cardiff barely any time on the ball as Owers does really well to stop a cross coming in.

Bajic has yet to be tested in this second half so far.

Kadji

You get the feeling he's enjoying this. He looks as though he's barely breaking a sweat which is a sign that he's so comfortable at this level.

When he gets the ball at his feet in the middle he's dictating the play by feeding it out to his team-mates and continues to maintain possession.

Back underway...

We're back and there's been no changes for the hosts. A good chance to see Semenyo's brother on this side now up against Owers.

  • Share

How it happened

It's a defensive horror show for Cardiff as Palmer-Houlden wins the ball - Bell can't latch onto his cross for his hat-trick but Backwell's lurking at the backpost to fire in a fourth.

Someone sitting a few yards away from me just joked: "Cardiff still getting battered everywhere they go"

And that's half-time!

Blimey, it's turning into a rout.

Superb centre-forward play

Leeson steals the ball from Tanner on the right and digs out a cross... Bell brings it down with his chest, makes a yard of space for himself with his second touch and fires his third across the keeper and into the far corner.

He made that look so simple.

Goalllllll Bristol City 3-0 Cardiff (Bell)

It's three and it's that man again with a brilliant finish.

  • Share

How it happened

It's some really good work by the striker who has been so lively in this first half.

He nicks the ball off Benjamin inside Cardiff's half and charges down on goal. He still has a lot to do but drives into the box and unleashes a strike with his right foot - it takes a slight touch off the defender and deceives the keeper to double City's advantage.

Ruthless attacking play.

City in cruise control and Bell hammers in the second!

The flow of this game

It's taken a bit of a lull but it's been a really enjoyable 37 minutes... Both sides seem to be having their own spells and Cardiff have just had their own but without capitalising.

Joe Low is an absolute beast, you'd know you've been in a game if you were going up against him as a striker. Owers has also just launched himself into a derby day tackle.

  • Share

"Liven up"

Screams from the Cardiff coach on the opposite side, he wants to see more.

Tanner is certainly looking their most dangerous player on this left side. Zac Bell has a tough job on his hands but he's dealing with him well.

  • Share

Sam Bell

The nippy striker is seeing a lot of the ball and is certainly stretching the Cardiff defence. Maybe he's taking one or two touches too many when Palmer-Houlden makes the runs across.

Bajic with a great punch from a Cardiff corner and there's a few applause from the players and coaches on the opposite side.

  • Share

How it happened

It's all about the delivery... Leeson sticks in a superb cross out from the right which finds Palmer-Houlden at the back post. His header cannons back off the bar from close range and rebounds to Backwell who makes no mistake with the finish.

Lovely stuff.

Goalllll Bristol City 1-0 Cardiff (Backwell)

There's the opener as Backwell fires in from close range!

  • Share

Chance!

Sam Bell with City's best opportunity. He gets space just outside the area and steadies himself but fires his left-footed effort narrowly wide of the post.

A good effort and an entertaining first 15 minutes.

  • Share

Cardiff pressure

Three crosses come into the box, one of which Bajic gets his fingers on to help it out for a corner.

Kristiansen wins a free header but he can't direct it goalwards and Leeson hoofs it clear.

  • Share

Bajic into action

First opportunity and Bajic is called into action for the first time.

Cardiff break with numbers and they've got a man on the overlap. They feed it to Ollie Tanner on the left but he can't get the ball out of his feet properly and his strike on the angle is comfortable for Bajic who grabs it at the second attempt.

Always nice to get a save away early on so that will be good for the confidence.

A high intensity

The last couple of U21 games have been pretty sluggish but there's no sign that this will be a bad game so far.

Cardiff haven't troubled yet but they've shown glimpses of their play with neat interchanges in the middle. They're playing out from the back and City are keen to close them down quickly.

  • Share

First corner

Good play by City with Sam Bell released down the right. He looks to generate space in the box and eventually lays it off to Leeson who strikes it from the angle.

It takes a deflection behind and Backwell whips in a great cross which Cardiff get clear. It's a bright start for the Robins who are playing a high press.

We're underway

It's City who get us going, kicking from left to right...

Zac Bell is playing in a back three with Josh Owers playing left wing-back.

Antoine's in attendance

The Bristol City striker casting an eye over his brother, Jai, who will play right-back this afternoon.

A few of the senior players are in attendance including Dan Bentley, Andy King, Andi Weimann and Mark Sykes.

Kick-off next...
