Bridget Jones is gearing up for a comeback with production slated to start this spring. The fourth instalment in the romantic comedy series is scheduled to start shooting in May, marking 23 years since the debut of the original film which grossed £222 million at the box office in 2001.
Double Oscar-winning actor Renee Zellweger will return, while Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are also expected back. The movie is said to draw inspiration from Helen Fielding's 2013 novel, "Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy," portraying Jones as a 51-year-old single mother of two as she ventures into the world of social media and dating apps.
An inside source told the Mail on Sunday : "Bridget is back and is about to take over London. Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre-production is in place. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring."
The upcoming film will come eight years following the release of "Bridget Jones's Baby", with the film ending with Zellweger's character tying the knot with Mark Darcy (played by Firth), then learning that he was the father of her child.
While Grant was absent from the third instalment, with his character believed to have died, a plot twist at the end of the film revealed he had actually survived the plane crash and was indeed still alive. It remains to be seen if the fourth film will remain faithful to the book it is based on, as *spoiler alert* halfway through the novel it's revealed Mark is dead and Bridget is a widow.
Bridget Jones' creator, Fielding, previously spoke about the possibility of getting a fourth film in the series. She told the Radio Times: "Every film that gets made is a miracle. I think it's really difficult to make films and to make them happen and to make them good and we want it to be really good. But I really hope so. I'd love to see it on the screen."
